Exploring Job Opportunities in Economics

Three Bentley grads spoke about their career paths post-graduation and shared their perspective on how to draw from your Bentley experience and economics background to differentiate yourself from other employees and achieve success.

WEB Mentorship and Trivia Night
October 19, 2022

Junior and senior mentors visited with first-year/sophomore mentees to share sage advice about their experiences with the majors and at Bentley. Faculty and students paired up for a trivia competition with prizes and snacks!

Students and faculty gathered to get active during Activity Period. This was a chance to meet the advisors, chat with other students, ask questions about the majors, etc. Donuts and cider kept everyone fueled!


Women in Industry

Four Bentley alumni discussed their experiences in "non-traditional" economics and finance roles. They shared insights about their early career progression, challenges they've faced along the way, how they've adapted in an international business environment, and how their perspectives have changed as a women in their respective fields. The panelists included:

2021 Career Clinic

Two Bentley alumni discussed the process of finding a career that suits you. The webinar was focused around strategies for early career development and pursuing opportunities that are engaging and fulfilling. 
 
The panelists included:
  • Kristin Allaben is the COO of The Forte Factor and a Certified Greatness Zone Professional Coach (CGC) specializing in confidence and possibilities. Life has a funny way of testing each of us and each test can challenge our confidence in every aspect of life. Allaben's coaching style helps you regain your self-confidence and pursue possibilities you never thought possible in your career, relationships, parenting and more. A former PR executive, Allaben has more than a decade of communications experience ranging from business to tech to healthcare industries. She is an avid reader and writer, and enjoys running, playing soccer and raising her three sons. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and kids.

Exploring Job Opportunities in Economics

Four Bentley grads described their career journeys and shared some insight on how to stand out and be successful with your economics degree. The alumni speakers included:
  • Maggie Collins (2016 – Economics-Finance): Currently working as a Senior Finance Analyst for ZS, a management consulting firm in Chicago. She is also earning her M.S. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University.
  • Adina Sklar (2019 – Economics-Finance): Currently working in Deloitte’s Risk and Financial Advisory Practice as a Regulations and Operations Consultant in Boston, MA.
  • Meg Berry (2009 – Marketing): Currently the Vice President of Demand Generation at Axonius, a cybersecurity startup, and previously held demand-focused roles at Cybereason, Virgin Pulse, Bright Horizons, and Experian. She is also a contributing author & speaker on topics ranging from workplace diversity, equal pay, and scaling marketing teams.
  • Nicole Konikow (2018 - Economics-Finance): Currently the People and Culture Manager at Nanoramic Laboratories, a start-up in Boston. She works in all areas of Operations, HR, and Organizational Behavior - collaborating with the c-suite to match strategy to all the smaller processes.

Women in the Workforce , COVID-19 Edition

In this interactive webinar, four Bentley alumnae discuss the experience of women in the workforce in the pandemic economy. They share how their roles have evolved, challenges they've faced along the way, and how they anticipate  their job responsibilities may change in the future. Luncheon with Marina von Neumann Whitman
January 30, 2020
Professors Laura Jackson Young and Meghan Esson took a group of 11 students to meet with Marina v.N. Whitman, Professor of Business Administration and Public Policy emerita from the University of Michigan. Marina has quite an impressive resume from her academic, policy, and private sector career as a very successful woman in economics. She was the first woman to serve on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and is the author of "The Martian's Daughter: A Memoir”. Marina is now retired and living at Newbury Court in Concord. The group visited Newbury Court for a luncheon with Marina reading a portion of the first chapter of her memoir which delves in to how she got to where she is today and a Q&A session with the students.
